Impact of COVID-19 on US Orthodox Christian Parishes (Phase 1)

The American Orthodox Christian Churches conducted a phase I online survey receiving 87 responses from pastors just prior to Easter between April 6 and 13. The survey acknowledged that the number of responses did not represent a, “statistically sound national sample of American Orthodox Churches.” Almost half of respondents indicated that their congregations had begun live-streaming services (47%) while 31% were conducing services in the church with only clergy present. Only 8% of congregations reported cancelling services all together. The survey focused significant attention on technological changes. Giving was divided with 50% reporting declined giving and 46% reporting giving at steady levels (4% reported giving was up).
